Your private guide can give you a greater insight into today\'s touring. The city of Chiang Mai has a wealth of beautiful and historic Buddhist Wats (temples), 36 Wats within the old city walls and many more in the surrounding countryside, and on this private tour a visit to the most fascinating Wats is made.
Near the summit of Doi Suthep, a 5300 feet peak named after the hermit Sudeva who lived on the mountain\'s slopes for many years, is the 600 year old temple of WAT PHRATHAT DOI SUTHEP. After a drive up the mountain\'s winding road, the final climb to the site is via an enormous mythological Nagas (Dragon-headed serpent) staircase of 306 steps. On a clear day, there are incomparable views over the city of Chiang Mai from the temple grounds.
WAT CHEDI LUANG consist of an impressive chedi, originally built in 1411. It reached a height of over 278 feet before it was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545. It now reaches a height of 196 feet. The temple also contains the city pillar. Statue in small shelters surrounding this building are the home of guardian spirits.

This trip is a gentle way to see Chiang Mai\'s People\'s lifestyle. Leave hotel to Wat Chai Mongkol where you start cruising through rural Mae Ping River by long-tail boat for 30 minutes. Softly moving along the river you will see wooden houses and modern residences with colourful scenery and lifestyle of the local people. Arrive at a local farm house where you can take a leisurely stroll around the grounds.
Continue on to Waroros Market, to see and feel the real northern people way of life and much more. In order to feel more about it, we take a tricycle ride along the main road to the old city. Then come to the main temple in town named Wat Prasingh (A.D.1345), housing a very old and sacred Buddha image, Phra Singh, for a visit. This temple contains supreme examples of Lanna art at Viharn Lai Kham which was built to house Phra Singh image enthroned inside. Lai Kam refers to the elegant gold tracery used for decoration. On the inner walls of the Viharn Lai Kham are some murals of two fables. Prince Sang Thong of the Golden Conch lies on the north wall and the Heavenly Phoenix takes up the south.
An adventure trek through some of the north\'s picturesque countryside. Approximately 25 kilometres northwest of Chiang Mai is Mae Sa Elephant Camp and it is here we head to watch the demonstration of elephants at work, moving logs and generally showing off their various skills.
After the display, there is an exciting elephant trek through the woods, and over hilly trails - a real adventure and wonderful experience.
The adventure then continues west in appropriate vehicles for a visit to a Meo hilltribe with an opportunity to explore the tribal huts and observes the normal, almost primitive way of life. Continue on to a nearby orchid farm where lunch is served.
After lunch there is time to explore the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden and learn about the tropical plant and flowers, returning to your hotel at approximately 3:00pm.
Chiang Mai Zoo is the first and only zoo in Northern Thailand where visitors can experience the excitement and intimacy of various species of animals in their natural habitat.
China had lent Chiang Mai Zoo 2 giant Pandas as friendship ambassadors between Thailand and China. (Only 6 countries in the world got this privilege.)
