Start with a 2 hour nature walk into the Chagres National Park before reaching the Chagres River for the rafting expedition. Along the way observe plenty of wildlife and birdlife. The river starts with a gentle flow, then progresses into a class III rapid further down for excitement. Take a swim in the crystal clear water to end a full day of adventure.

The course of the Chagres River is relatively unknown due to the lack of access to the area. Start with a ride in a 4WD vehicle to reach the small town of San Cristobal, beyond Cerro Azul, in the area of the Chagres National Park. Then, walk for 2 hours on a trail until you reach the departure point on a river beach of El Chagres.

This expedition is mainly scenic as the watershed of the river boasts a unique tropical rainforest. This gives you the chance to observe plenty of wildlife, including several species of monkeys, sloths, and some other mammals that reach the border to drink water. Behold many bird species such a Anhingas, Cormorants, King Fishers, Jacanas and other bird species that inhabit the area. As the forest is still virgin, sedimentation is too low, this gives you the pleasure to enjoy a swim in crystal, clear water. This river is considered slow moving waters however, you will find some exciting white water rapids classified class III rapids further down the river. The rafting experience ends when reaching Alajuela Lake, then you are transported back to Panama City.
