Enjoy a personalised tour of the vineyards of the Mornington Peninsula, a little over an hour's drive from the Melbourne CBD.
Visit a minimum of 4 vineyards, meet a winemaker and enjoy lunch at a superb winery restaurant. Taste a wide range of cool climate wines, the flavours enhanced without the worry of driving. Surrounded by water, the peninsula is one of the most picturesque wine regions imaginable.
Depart at 9.30am and travel to the south-east. The first winery to be visited would be Tanglewood Estate at Merricks North, a small family owned and operated winery where a warm welcome is always extended. From the first plantings in 1984 the vineyard covers 7 acres. The principal varieties grown are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. Biscuits and cheese would complement the tastings.
A short drive away is the Willow Creek Vineyard at Merricks North. Now successfully established there are consistently good wines being produced here from estate grown grapes. These include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. After the tasting, adjourn to the adjacent Salix Restaurant where a main course lunch would be served in the light filled restaurant that overlooks the vineyard. Tea and coffee would also be included.
After lunch travel around the eastern side of the peninsula to the Red Hill Estate Winery which arguably offers the most stunning setting of any Peninsula winery. Superb views across Westernport Bay are offered and the expansive lawn area is a delightful site to enjoy a glass of wine on a sunny day.
The day concludes with a visit to T'Gallant. Without doubt the funkiest winery on the peninsula, it was purchased by Fosters in late 2003. They source fruit from all over Victoria and produce a wide selection of wines at different price points. Regarded as the pioneers of the Pinot Gris movement in Australia, it is a property that leaves an impression.
