DAY 1 CAIRNS - THURSDAY ISLAND - CAPE YORK (Dinner).
Transfer to Cairns airport for your flight to Thursday Island. This flight provides spectacular views of the Coral Sea and The Great Barrier Reef and the uninhabited East Coast wilderness of Cape York Peninsula. On arrival at Thursday Island, you will be taken on a informative guided bus tour of the island and it''s picturesque Harbour, once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. Late afternoon ferry transfer to the mainland, where you will be met by your guide, who will take you to your permanent pre-erected base camp at Seisia. Seisia is ideally located for our next few days, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, a famous fishing spot. (Showers, Toilets, Laundry).
DAY 2 SEISIA - CAPE YORK - SOMERSET (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
An unforgettable day! Stand at the very top of mainland Australia and celebrate with champagne and photographs. We then visit Somerset, once the home of the legendary Jardine family and lunch on palm fringed Anchorage Beach which overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk on the beach completes your day before returning to camp. (Showers, Toilets, Laundry).
DAY 3 CAPE YORK - SEISIA - TWIN FALLS (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Southward bound, we cross the mighty Jardine River. We travel along the upper section of the Old Telegraph Track, en route for Elliot Falls (Indian Head Falls) and Twin Falls. An early arrival allows plenty of time to enjoy a refreshing swim and view the pristine falls. (Bush Camp and Toilets).
DAY 4 TWIN FALLS - BRAMWELL STATION (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
After a leisurely morning, we travel on to Fruit Bat Falls, where you can enjoy the view and have a refreshing swim. We the make our way to our permanent camp for the night, a “true blue, aussie” cattle station, Bramwell. (Showers, Toilets).
DAY 5 BRAMWELL STATION - WEIPA (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
A southerly run through the wilderness with all its varied landscapes to cross the Wenlock River. We head for the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria and our overnight stop at our permanent camp in Weipa, with its view over Albatross Bay. This afternoon there will be the opportunity of a tour of the largest bauxite mine in the world (own
expense). (Showers, Toilets, Laundry)
DAY 6 WEIPA - ARCHER RIVER (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
Leaving this modern town behind, we head towards the Wenlock River. We visit the Wenlock River Goldfields, an abandoned mining town, showing relics of Cape York's gold mining history in a natural setting. Then we make our way to our permanent campsite at picturesque Archer River. (Showers, Toilets, Laundry).
DAY 7 ARCHER RIVER - LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
This morning we head east towards Princess Charlotte Bay, where we traverse almost the entire length of Lakefield National Park, an amalgamation of 3 huge cattle stations, now a haven for the many birds and animals, native to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. We camp tonight at Kalpower Crossing. (Showers, Toilets).
DAY 8 LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK - COOKTOWN (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).
An early start enables us to watch the sun rise over the swamps of Lakefield and to listen to the awakening bird life. Travelling southwards, we'll come across various water holes where, with luck,
the warming sun may bring crocodiles to the banks. We continue on to Old Laura Homestead and from here we head towards Cooktown via the Battle Camp Road. Visit the Cooktown Museum, Captain Cooks Landing, Grassy Hill Lookout, the cemetery, and/or shop for souvenirs in original colonial era stores. Accommodation in Cooktown. (Showers, Toilets, Laundry).
DAY 9 COOKTOWN - CAPE TRIBULATION - CAIRNS (Breakfast, Lunch).
The final exciting day has, unfortunately, arrived but, before returning to Cairns, we travel down the Bloomfield Track to Cape Tribulation, where the 'rainforest meets the reef. At Cape Tribulation, where Captain Cook's troubles began, we will enjoy a rainforest walk. Continuing southwards, we stop at various spectacular lookouts, before crossing the Daintree River to begin the last leg of our journey home. This scenic drive along the Captain Cook Highway is a perfect way to complete your Cape York Adventure.
We arrive back in Cairns in the late afternoon and return you to your accommodation. |
