Face the Outback - 8 day overland adventure tour

Travel the legendary trail to (or from) Central Australia. Small group adventure for 8 days overland travel, camping and hiking. Take the Oodnadatta Track and explore remote outback towns, desert landscapes and Red Centre. 4 great hikes - Wilpena Pound, Uluru base, KataTjuta, Kings Canyon.

Start Adelaide (SA) and finish Alice Springs (NT) Visits Clare Valley, Flinders Ranges, Wilpena Pound, Blinman, Marree, Oodnadatta Track, Lake Eyre South, William Creek, Coober Pedy, Breakaways, Yulara, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon.

Minimum 5 people, maximum 22 people. All are welcome - we have an "open ages, open minds" attitude.

A good level of fitness is an advantage for completing the 4 main hikes, ranging from 6 to 9 km. Bring: hat, sunscreen, sleeping bag, walking shoes, bug spray, jacket, warm clothes in winter, sunglasses, water bottle, swimwear, towel, torch, small backpack (to carry on walks).

(1) Tours depart every Wednesday from Adelaide and every Saturday from Alice Springs. (2) Prices valid for travel up to 31 March 2007. Includes all touring, camping 5 nights, bunkhouse accommodation 2 nights, all meals from lunch day 1 to lunch day 8. (3) $895 to 31 Mar 2007. Child rate $715 (up to 12yrs). (4) Uluru NP fee $25 is extra. (5) Fuel surcharge $10 per person. (6) Luggage should not exceed 15kgs. (7) Special diets on request.

Day 1 - Adelaide to Flinders Ranges (LD) From Adelaide, our way north weaves through the Clare Valley vineyards and a string of quaint towns. Enjoy big views of the Flinders Ranges as we approach Wilpena campsite tonight. Day 2 - Wilpena Pound (BLD) Our first chance for spectacular hikes. The views are breathtaking. After lunch, dirt roads lead to the old copper mines of Blinman. At Angorichina cool off in the nearby waterhole & stay in bunkhouse style accommodation. Day 3 - Oodnadatta Track to William Creek (BLD) We breakout from the Ranges through Parachilna Gorge with an option to cycle 7km through the Gorge. Copley Bakery is the last cappuccino opportunity for 300km. The bitumen ends at Lyndhurst, see the Aboriginal ochre pits, Marree's Old Ghan rail station. The Oodnadatta Track follows the dusty trail of the camel caravans past Lake Eyre and thermal mound springs. We camp in swags within stumbling distance of William Creek Pub. Day 4 - Oodnadatta Track to Coober Pedy (BLD) Desert landscapes include red dunes, salt pans & gibber plains on the morning drive to Coober Pedy. We'll show you an underground house, mine tour, opal cutting, underground church - and time to 'noodle' (fossick) for opals. Underground bunkhouse is our 'digs' tonight. Day 5 - Breakaways to Uluru (BLD) Roam the colourful Breakaways (Mad Max III, Priscilla) then 700kms of highway via Erldunda to Uluru. By special invite, we may go off-highway to visit Iwantja Aboriginal Arts. Arrive camp in time for Uluru sunset. Days 6 & 7 - Uluru & Kata Tjuta (BLD) Two nights is a big advantage: double chances for sunsets & sunrises, more time for Uluru and Kata Tjuta walks & more flexibility in hot weather. Camp near Kings Canyon (with facilities). Day 8 - Kings Canyon to Alice (BL) On the 3 hour Rim Walk you'll see the sandstone domes of the Lost City, the Garden of Eden pool & views along both walls of Kings Canyon. The afternoon travels on to Alice, arriving by 6pm.
