Starting Friday night and finishing on Sunday, you will enjoy a riding weekend that will take us from Beechworth, through Myrtleford, Ovens and onto Bright. The off road paved route cruises along the easy rail Trail of the old Murray to Mountains railway. The trail is peppered with wineries, bakeries, pubs and restaurants along the way, and we take advantage of this with a number of tastings and food stops. There will be a guide and a support vehicle provided, which will also carry your luggage and any food or wines you want to purchase along the way, so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Friday
Make your own way to Beechworth on Friday night. The group will meet at a venue in Beechworth where we will enjoy some local wines and gourmet foods, get briefed on some of the happenings over the weekend and answer any questions you may have. We spend the night in the historic Old Priory accommodation in Beechworth.
Saturday
After a light breakfast at our accommodation, we stop in at the famous Beechworth Bakery. A latte and doughnut later, we hop on our bike for a short ride to the Pennyweight Winery for tastings (5 kilometres out of town!). It's then a downhill ride all the way until we reach Everton (15 kilometres). On a warm day we will stop here for a few cold ones.
OPTION: Shuttle bus from Everton to Brown Brothers winery for tastings and educational and then lunch at the gourmet Milawa Cheese Factory. There is an additional cost for this option.
From Everton we get our bums back on the bikes (no groaning please) for the ride to our next destination, the Gapsted Winery. Here we take in awesome vistas down the valley and onto Mt Buffalo. We will also be treated to a short winery tutorial from the friendly staff and we get to taste more wines with matching gourmet food.
Our last leg is to the rest stop for the night at Ovens, comfortable cabin accommodation set amongst a delightful bush setting.
A highlight of the weekend is dinner at the Ovens Pub on Saturday night. This can turn into a fun evening!
Sunday
We do a short back pedal for breakfast at the new Alpine Enoteca bakery, and then it's a gentle flat ride, slowly making our way to the gorgeous Boynton's Winery. It's here we settle in for a long lunch, with tender BBQ meats, fresh salads, and of course all those tempting wines. We are also given a short educational tour of the winery. The views from Boynton's are again enchanting down the valley and on a nice day (which is nearly all the time) this place can be hard to leave.
It's a relatively short and easy ride into the picturesque Bright, passing along the Ovens River and under the tree lined streets leading into this pretty town.
We enjoy a final relaxing break by the flowing Ovens River whilst our bikes are loaded onto our bus and trailer transport back to Beechworth.
You can bring your own bike or we can arrange for bike hire at the destination, just let us know. |
