Travel back to 1905 and experience the life of prisoners through the stories told by prisoners and warders from this harsh prison known as 'The Hell Hole of the South Pacific". Our professional actors will make the surprising and, sometimes, amusing history come to life. It is suitable for all.

We leave Manly Boat Harbour at 9.15 am (be there at 9.00am for
boarding). The Stockade tour runs for 1.5 hours and the Cemetery tour
for 1
hour. Departure for the return journey is at 1.30 pm to disembark at
2.15pm.
Our maximum group size on the vessel is 120, however commonly it is 50-60 passengers. On St Helena you will be in a group of maximum size 30 people.
We recommend that all guests wear hats, sunscreen and insect repellant. While this is an easy walking tour, a courtesy minibus is available for guests who need it. We ask all our guests to wear comfortable casual clothing and enclosed shoes, as the road is made of crushed coral.
On the 40 minute journey on board the Cat O' Nine Tails you will go back in time 100 years. After a short break for morning tea, our guides will escort you to the prison stockade. Be prepared for their stories and the re-enactment of the brutal punishments inflicted on the unfortunate inmates of this harsh Penal establishment.
You will then be served with a delicious lunch of ham, chicken and salad, with tea, coffee and iced water followed by a famous St Helena muffin. After lunch you will be led on a tour of the island's cemeteries and here the stories of the prisoners and children who rest on St Helena forever.
At the end of the program we will transport you back to the present day whilst entertaining you with some songs from St Helena's history. Do you know that 'Waltzing Matilda' has a connection with St Helen? How did St Helena get its name? Come on a Prison Life tour and you will learn the answers to these, and many more questions.
