Tandem hang gliding in Byron Bay

Try a Tandem Flight with a 30 minute introductory flight with your experienced instructor. Soar over the beautiful beaches at Byron Bay and keep an eye out for the popular Byron Bay Dolpins, turtles, white breasted sea eagles. You may even see a humpback whale or two!

This activity is undertaken in The hang gliding is undertaken in the Cape Byron National Park for southeasterly winds and over the Lennox Headland Nature Reserve for northerly winds.

There is a 10 - 15 minute briefing. The actual flight lasts 30 minutes. We operate every day subject to weather conditions, except Christmas Day.

We can take up 2-4 flights at a time.

To participate you need to be fit enough to ride a bike. Weight restrictions vary depending on weather conditions, as a general basis the maximum weight is 90 Kgs. Minimum age is 13 years old. We do not recommend hang gliding for people with serious conditions such as heart problems, diabetes, recent injuries/operations.

Before launching with your instructor you will be given a 10-15 minute briefing and explanation on and about hang gliding - its as easy as that! We have been flying the ridges and soaring above the cliffs at the famous Cape Byron lighthouse for over 25 years now and the setting for your first hang gliding experience could not be better. Your first tandem flight can truly give you the freedom like only a quiet hang glider can and no previous experience is necessary. Further lessons and instruction are available to achieve your pilots certificate. We join you up as a HGFA member which gives you trainee membership and allows you to enjoy a tandem flight with third party liability insurance for a further 4 months if you wish to take more flights/lessons.

Hang Gliding is heavily dependant on weather conditions. If weather conditions are poor, we will reschedule to another suitable day. All flying is professionally conducted with certified instructors who live locally and are very experienced members of the Hang Gliding association of Australia. We are accredited and preferred licence holders to operate in the national park where control and management of all activities are co-ordinated with the Cape Byron Headland reserve trust.
