Taste of Freedom Glider Flight

A 40 minute glider flight departing from Tyagarah near Byron Bay. Fly over Byron Bay's prisitine beaches, the rainforests of the Hinterland and keep an eye our for our local dolphins and whales from the air. When the engine is cut, you fly like a bird enjoying the freedom of the limitless sky.

This activity departs and returns to Tyagarah Airfield, Byron Bay.

Actual flight time is approx 40 minutes. Please allow 15 minutes for briefing and preparation.

This is one on one with your pilot.

You should wear comfortable clothes and sensible shoes, and a jumper in winter. You must be over 12 years of age and under 110kg. If you are under 18 you will require written parental consent. Weather conditions may require your flight to be re-scheduled. Check us on the day if in doubt.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the thrill as you take off in these amazing powered gliders. Be enthralled at the awesome views over the Byron Coast. When the engine is cut, you fly like a bird enjoying the freedom of the limitless sky. These self-launching motor gliders embody the advantages of powered aircraft combined with the inherent safety of sailplanes, and regularly soar the rugged ridges of Mt Warning and the cliffs below the historic Byron Bay Lighthouse. Your pilot will give you a pre-flight briefing before you climb aboard and get comfortably strapped into your safety harness ready for take off. You will sit beside your pilot and have a great view all round. Take off from Tyagarah and arrive at Cape Byron flying low around the lighthouse, keeping an eye out for dolphins or whales at Watego Beach. From there you will go to Broken Head where "the rainforest meets the sea" and you will see our pristine, uninhabited beaches. Turning inland you will climb to 4500ft for an overall view up and down the coast before the engine is turned off and the propellor feathered for soaring. You will have magnificent views of the Great Dividing Range, Mount Warning and the Gold Coast as you glide back to the airstrip on silent wings.

This gliding club is one of the very few clubs holding a Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) Air Operators Certificate for your added security and safety.
