Whale watching is a magnificent experience. Come along and view the magnificent Southern Right whales off the Victorian coast near Warrnambool, and learn about the beauty and complexity of these mammals. Each year between late May and early September, the waters along the Warrnambool coastline become a nursery for one of the largest species of great whales, the Southern Right Whale. The Southern Right Whale is sometimes known as a Black Right Whale or as the Pacific Right Whale. Our boat, Viper, gives an ocean perspective of these magnificent mammals during their stay in our local waters. We believe that by providing an opportunity for you to witness the amazing Southern Right Whales, not only does it put a smile on your face but it also increases awareness of the beauty of nature and the need to nurture our precious wildlife. This is a view that has also been expressed by a number of whale researchers. Adult Southern Right Whales can measure up to 18 metres in length with tail flukes spanning 5 metres, and weigh between 50 and 80 tonnes. Calves are born in the shallow and relatively warm waters of the Southern Australian coastline (which includes Warrnambool) weighing approximately 1 tonne and measuring between 4-5 metres in length. They gain over 90kg in weight per day with a diet of up to 125 litres of very rich milk from their mothers. Within the first few months of life the calf will gain up to 10 tonnes in weight and 8 metres in length.
